Life QotD: 2008 Highlights

Comments

This is a great list of highlights :) How did that power bill happen? :P
We signed up for this PG&E assistance program. We get a discount and they came out to do a power audit to see how we could use less power. This program also gave us a new refrigerator, added insulation in the attic, weather stripped the doors, added power saver lights, and fixed the heater ducts. So with all the repairs and the discount our power bills have been soooooo much tinier than they used to be. We've had winter bills over $400 before...it's about 1/4 - 1/3 of that now. It's awesome!

And thanks! It's been a pretty good year!
Good God! $400?! I'm glad that most of that could be fixed by the suggestions they gave you - you shouldn't have a bill that high no matter where you live.
Yup!! Crazy huh? Mostly it was the repairs, insulation, and weather stripping along with the discount that lowered the cost. The suggestions were like "keep the thermostat low" (we'd keep the thing off as much as we could) and "turn off lights when you leave the room" (that was definitely not what was jacking it up). I think the worst thing that was costing us so much was the ducting wasn't flush with the registers so we were leaking all the warm air under the house rather than inside it (I had a repairman look under the house at one point because I thought the ducting might be broken but he'd said it was fine...well the ducting itself was solid, there were just huge gaps where it attached to the registers). It's amazing....now the house actually gets warm when we turn the heater on!
